Three finalists for the SA Agricultural Town of the Year Award have been selected, with Burra on the VIP list alongside Kimba and Penola.

Nestled in the Clare Valley, the town of 1,100 people is known for its rich history.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regions says the town has a reputation for producing high-quality sheep and wool, and for its contribution to broadacre farming, pastoral activities, and livestock production.

The top three towns will be visited by a panel of judges next month and the winner will be announced on 24 October.
