Four new homes will soon be built for key workers in the Spencer Gulf, with work anticipated to begin before the end of this financial year.
The State Government’s Regional Key Worker Housing Scheme will see 13 houses erected in three locations across South Australia in an effort to attract and retain vital, skilled workers in country communities.
Minister for Housing Nick Champion says the program will help deliver quality government services in the regions.
“This is a program that we’re hoping to roll-out in waves to construct more and more homes in regional country towns to basically accommodate government employees,” Minister Champion says.
Port Augusta, Mount Gambier and Renmark were chosen for the first wave of the housing boost program.
“That’s where we know we’ve got demand for government workers and we know we’ve got very tight rental markets.
“So, these are the first areas where it makes the most sense to build in this first wave.”
Rockford Homes will construct the two and three bedroom houses in Port Augusta.
