Working families are being given more flexibility when it comes to preschool after a Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education.

A trial, labelled ‘Kindy Care’, is getting underway in 20 preschools and functions similarly to an out-of-hours service like OSHC.

Included in the first ten to be rolled out is Whyalla’s Gabmididi Manoo Children and Family Centre, followed by another ten preschools later this year or early next year.

Education Minister Blair Boyer says there’s been a gap in the system for a long time.

“This is good in terms of modernising our service to make sure it’s up to date with the modern working family, but also try to do more to encourage people who want to get back into the workforce or increase their hours at work to be able to do exactly that,” Minister Boyer says.
