The Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence is in Port Pirie and Port Augusta this week.
Royal Commissioner Natasha Stott Despoja says it’s vital to hear lived experiences so she can understand challenges and gaps in the system to try and eliminate the scourge of domestic and family violence in the state.
“I want people to feel that they can have a say, Ms Despoja says.
“I’m really interested in what people feel are solutions to the current crisis that we have.
“They do say that trauma has a long tail, and that includes for a range of people from a range of different backgrounds, and for me that includes understanding the specific challenges in the regions.”
There have been big discussions with various organisations throughout the Royal Commission.
“SAPOL, Uniting Country SA, dealing with individuals of course, people from the sector, including KWY Aboriginal Corporation, the Family Violence Legal Service Aboriginal Corporation – just a range of organisations who are involved in this space.”
The Royal Commission will finish on 1 July 2025, when it will be presented to the Premier.
