An investigation into two bushfires in Port Augusta resulted in the arrest of a local teenager on Wednesday, 24 April.
The investigation began when police were called to the vicinity of Cain Street and Bailey Street after reports of a fire.
The blaze was quickly extinguished by fire crews and no property was damaged, but around 50 square metres of scrub was burnt.
Witnesses reported seeing a male youth leaving the area at the time of the fire, and less than an hour later, police attended a local home where they arrested a 17-year-old boy.
He’s been charged with two counts of causing a bushfire and was refused bail.
Police will allege he also lit a fire near Victoria Parade on Tuesday, 23 April.
The boy appears in Port Augusta Youth Court via video link today.
